On behalf of the MARTA Summerhill Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) Project Team, I am reaching out to you to request your participation in upcoming community meetings to discuss the MARTA Summerhill Bus Rapid Transit Project.

Your feedback is needed to move this project forward.  Our team is excited about the project, and we want to speak with YOU about the planned route and how the project will best connect Summerhill, Peoplestown, and South Downtown to the core of the city.

The MARTA Summerhill BRT Project Team is committed to delivering a project that will efficiently and safely serve the transportation needs of employers, workers, and residents.  Our goal is to work with the community to deliver a project that will set the standard for any future Bus Rapid Transit project within the Metropolitan Atlanta Region and beyond.

Come join Dunbar Elementary’s parents, students, and teachers for a 5K run/walk event which will be held in the Mechanicsville community THIS SATURDAY, September 28th. Proceeds go to Dunbar Elementary School. The participation fee is $35, but the event is free for parents and students.

Route:

Atlanta Streets Alive opens streets for people by temporarily closing them to cars, creating a vibrant street experience and demonstrating the benefits of safe streets. The route scheduled for September 29th originally included Cascade Road and Ralph David Abernathy Boulevard and was supposed to terminate in West End, but the route has been modified to extend the Ralph David Abernathy Blvd. portion east all the way to Hank Aaron Drive in Summerhill. That means that ASA will be returning to Mechanicsville for the first time since 2017!

Date: Sunday, September 29, 2019
Location: Cascade Avenue / Ralph David Abernathy Blvd – 3.6 miles
Program: 2:30pm – 6:30pm
Street Closure: 12:30pm – 8:00pm

POLICY INSITUTE IS BACK!

The Policy Institute is a 8 session intensive course designed to educate and train leaders active in or interested in becoming active in social justice work. Classes begin on Thursday, September 19^th, 2019.

Georgia STAND-UP, a “Think & Act Tank for Working Communities,” identifies community issues and provides a forum for local residents to address their issues.

Please join us for our monthly Mechanicsville Civic Association meeting, Wednesday, September 4th at 6:30 PM. The meeting will be held at Dunbar Recreation Center (477 Windsor Street SW). Note that though the meeting is typically held the first Monday of every month, we are shifting the meeting to Wednesday so that it doesn’t conflict with the Labor Day holiday.
