Black Voter Turnout Project

My name is Susan, and I’m a volunteer with BlockPower, (https://www.blockpower.vote/), a non-profit, nonpartisan organization focused on engaging new and infrequent Black voters in the electoral process.

We’re reaching out to you and to other leading neighborhood associations, civic groups, non-profit organizations, and businesses to help get the word out about a project we’re doing with the New Georgia Project to increase Back voter turnout for the January 5 Senate runoff election.

BlockPower is looking for “Voting Ambassadors”— people who commit to talking with friends and family about the importance of voting and getting these friends to agree to help spread the word.

It’s a proven strategy known as “vote tripling” and the process is simple.  Anyone interested in being a Voting Ambassador can sign up through this dedicated link.  They get a brief orientation and training and once on board, they approach friends and family members about voting, asking them in turn to remind three of their friends to vote.  Voting Ambassadors earn money when their friends (known as Vote Triplers) agree to reach out to three of their friends (they earn $25 for each Vote Tripler they recruit).  Vote Triplers can choose to become Voting Ambassadors themselves, where they then earn money for finding additional voters.  Through this process the impact deepens and spreads.  You can see how it works in this short video.  And here’s a FAQ that may be useful: https://www.blockpower.vote/ambassadors/faq/

We’re hoping you’ll share this information through the Mechanicsville Civic Association and through your other professional and personal networks to help recruit Voting Ambassadors.  Here is a link to a group of sample social media posts, graphics, and flyers you can use, and attached is a flyer you can print and post.

Given the limited time we have before the election, we’re eager to get started.  Please let me know if you have any questions.  Thank you so much!

Kind regards,
Susan

Intrenchment Creek Community Stewardship Council Kickoff Meeting SATURDAY

Intrenchment Creek is the primary watershed area in south and southeast Atlanta. Unfortunately, we recognize that many of our community’s residents may not be aware of the creek because much of it is buried underneath asphalt and concrete (map of Atlanta communities affected by Intrenchment Creek). In fact, the headwaters of the creek are buried beneath the Georgia State Capitol building.

The Intrenchment Creek Community Stewardship Council is a newly-formed organization working to restore, revitalize, and protect the ecological health of the south Atlanta communities that are connected to the creek. Our work is modeled on that of our allies at the Proctor Creek Stewardship Council, and specifically, we are looking to reverse the decades of environmental injustice that have adversely impacted our communities for far too long.

Our chief goals are to:

  • Develop stewards who are strong and empowered leaders working for the restoration, revitalization, and protection of Intrenchment Creek; and develop/grow an educated and empowered community that is positively impacting the restoration, revitalization, and protection of Intrenchment Creek

  • Advocate for the fair and equitable treatment and inclusion of the underserved Intrenchment Creek communities in the planning and implementation of projects, and the enforcement of environmental policy, regulations, and laws.

  • Collaborate with public and private partners to implement projects for the watershed conceptualized with community input such as with the One Water Intrenchment Creek Task Force vision.

  • Serve as an interdisciplinary, scientific, and technical collaborative for information sharing on watershed activities in Intrenchment Creek

  • Promote sustainable land use and reduce the impact of food insecurity through the implementation of urban agriculture

ICCSC will be hosting our kickoff event on Saturday, November 21 at 11:00 am. We will be introducing our organization to the world and will be discussing all the ways you and your communities can join our fight to restore and revitalize one of Atlanta’s most endangered watersheds. It will be a virtual meeting, and you can join via Zoom using the following information:
