The Mechanicsville Civic Association will be holding officer elections at our meeting held on Monday, December 7 for the following positions:

5.6 – Qualifications for Board of Directors and Committee Chairs
A. All Officers of the Corporation including the President, Vice-President, Secretary, Treasurer, Parliamentarian, Membership Officer and Chaplain must have been a resident of Mechanicsville for at least the most recent two (2) years preceding date of Bi-Annual Meeting. All Officers of the Corporation must have attended no fewer than six (6) monthly meetings of the MCA membership body during the year of nomination.
B. All standing committee chairs, excluding the Membership committee, but including the Economic Development Chair, Housing Chair, Youth Development Chair, Senior Living Chair, Public Safety/Environmental Justice Chair, Health and Human Services Chair and the Communications Committee Chair must have attended no fewer than six (6) monthly meetings of the MCA membership body during the year of nomination.
At our October Meeting, the Board of Directors voted to suspend bylaws sections requiring members to have attended 6 (six) meetings to run for one of these positions due to MCA having to cancel our April and May meetings because of COVID-19. The meeting requirement is currently set to four (4) for the purposes of this election.

If a position has no eligible candidate nominated or approved, then that vacancy may be filled by the Mechanicsville Civic Association President.

Also please note that we will be discussing two proposed amendments to our bylaws at our November meeting that may further expand nomination eligibility.

City Council Passes Party House Ordinance
The Party House Ordinance 19-O-1393 was passed by City Council unanimously with 14 votes on Monday, October 19th. The Zoning Number for this ordinance is Z-19-76. The ordinance is now at the Mayor’s office for signature. Our understanding is that 19-O-1393 becomes law later this week unless it is vetoed by the mayor’s office.
The City of Atlanta Department of City Planning is pleased to invite you to participate on the Stakeholder Advisory Committee for the 2021 Atlanta Comprehensive Development Plan.
The Comprehensive Development Plan guides Atlanta’s growth and development. It is used to prioritize infrastructure investment across the city and make changes to neighborhood and corridor plans. The State requires it to be updated every five (5) years, and this year’s update will happen when Atlantans are facing unprecedented development, a global pandemic, economic uncertainty, and a national reckoning on racism and injustice.
As we take on this effort, we draw upon Atlanta City Design: Aspiring to the Beloved Community and its core values of equity, progress, ambition, access, and nature. The 2021 Comprehensive Development Plan is our chance to embrace an Atlanta designed for growth with greater density while conserving the unique character and scale of our neighborhoods. The Atlanta City Design challenges us to design an inclusive city and become the beloved community.
We are convening a group that is broadly diverse. Your organizations give voice to others. Many of you guided past city-wide planning efforts, such as Atlanta City Design, Atlanta Transportation Plan, Atlanta City Design – Nature, Atlanta City Design – Housing (2020), Atlanta Future Places.
Your continued leadership will ensure the values of Atlanta City Design are put into action in the Comprehensive Development Plan. This group will give insights and feedback to inform decisions throughout the planning process. Equally important, the group’s deep connections with Atlantans will help break down barriers to truly give voice to those who don’t have it yet, particularly those who are suffering from racism, poverty, hunger, homelessness and other injustices.
Atlantans must be heard, especially in these times, and be allowed to influence comprehensive development planning if our city is to be for everyone.
We will hold a virtual introductory meeting to orient the Stakeholder Advisory Committee members.* This meeting will be on Wednesday, October 28th from 12:00 to 1:00pm. The meeting will be recorded and shared to the group if you cannot attend live.

My name is Keith Hagood, a Prevention Specialist with Westcare GA. Our Youth Department host A Leadership Program called Youth Community Builders ( YCB), and would like children from our community to be a part of our 2nd cohort!

The Goal of YCB is to empower youth to make a difference in themselves and their community! Our program is designed to engage, uplift, and support our youth to develop their brightest potential while making the best choices.
