Atlanta Streets Alive Southwest Route Survey

Atlanta Streets Alive is returning to southwest Atlanta next year, and ASA is seeking community input on where the route should be. Please see below, and please fill out their quick survey and have a say in how we can build safer, accessible streets in our community:

Emergency Shelter Locations

This information is a week old, but it could be helpful if you know anybody seeking shelter over the next few days:

This a list of the centers that will open this evening. As we begin to experience freezing temps, please begin alerting your clients and guests about the overflow shelter beds available below. Also, please ensure your outreach teams are spreading the word to unsheltered individuals. Also, at the end of this email are opportunities to assist in the effort by supporting the resource needs of our shelters who go above and beyond every winter to ensure individuals stay warm and safe. Please consider sharing that with your networks.

The following shelters will offer cold weather overflow when the temps drop below 40 and 35 degrees (see notes for specifics):

At 40 degrees and below:
Salvation Army: 469 Marietta Street, Atlanta 30313—will activate tonight
30 men, 10 women and 2-3 families
Beginning at 5pm for referral, entry at 9pm
At 35 degrees and below: *likely for Saturday night and early next week but please consult updated forecast

Trinity: Sack lunches, juices, blankets, pillows
City of Refuge: Blankets, sheets and pillows
Donna Center: cots and blankets

November Mechanicsville Civic Association Meeting

Please join us for our monthly Mechanicsville Civic Association meeting, Thursday, November 8th at 6:30 PM. The meeting date has been moved back because our normal meeting room will be used for Election Day activities. As usual, the meeting will be held in Room 207 at the Dunbar Recreation Center, located at 477 Windsor Street, Atlanta GA 30312. We hope to see you there!
